In 2019 The Arts Society Corinium enjoyed an interesting year as the funding partner of the Corinium Museum in Cirencester working with young primary school children in conjunction with Trinity College London, a College offering a Young Arts scheme.
The children attended the Museum and explored the DiscoverCorinium programme. They had a busy time learning about different types of art in the museum through an interactive log-book. They were inspired by ancient artists by finding out about their work and drawing shapes, patterns, animals and mythical beasts with support from the Corinium Museum staff. Enjoying this experience with their friends in the group was particularly rewarding for the youngsters especially when sitting together making mosaic pieces which they were able to take home.
Trinity College, together with the Corinium Museum staff, were able to study each child’s work at the end of the activities and award Discover Certificates to each child. The framed personalised Certificates were presented to the excited children at The Churn Project premises in Cirencester some weeks after the programme was completed.
We also agreed to grant aid an illustrated book which the pupils at Minchinhampton Junior School wrote during 2016 and which was published on 10th June 2017. Pictures of this project are in the gallery.
The Arts Society Corinium also contributed funds and assistance to the local schools who made a quilt and mosaic panels as part of the celebrations for ABBEY 900 - the 900thanniversary of the founding of St. Mary’s Abbey in Cirencester in 1117.
